So, most of you know that Pete Cannon and I are getting married in (wait, let me check theknot.com . . .) 48 days, on Oct 9, 2010. It's strange that something that seemed so far for so long is just right around the corner. But, also not strange in that it's just right . . . I can't imagine not being with Pete forever . . . so it's gonna be great!
So, if you don't know the story at all, Pete and I started dating in . . . . well, actually, that depends on how you define dating :) Just kidding - well, we started playing tennis in August of 2009, did that for a while until we decided that we both eat and might as well do it together. After lots of teasing about texting from family, complaints that we weren't around or didn't play Halo as much (you can guess who they were complaining about there) . . . Pete proposed on June 9. He planned a picnic dinner at a state park about 15 minutes from my house. He had been talking about going to this park for weeks . . . which he thought was a clever ruse to distract attention from going there that night. But, since he hardly ever wants to go anywhere specific, I was suspicious. More than that, I fully expected a proposal that night!
Well, with getting home from work and things ready for the picnic, it ended up being a little later than we thought it would be, so we decided to go to a park closer to my house. We got there and ate dinner, and then decided to walk around the park. As we walked around, I tried to guess where he might decide to stop. But we kept walking until we stopped to watch some of a baseball game going on. We watched for a while (well . . . I had to do a little analysis of the players . . . can't suppress that inner coach) and I kept asking Pete if it was too late, if we needed to go, or what. At that point, I was confused about what was going on. So, we finally kept walking back, got in the car and came home. So . . . I figured it was a fake out . . . he thinks he's clever.
So, we walked in and put some things down. Then Pete said he had something for me, knelt down and asked me to marry him (well, he was a little more verbose than that, but the summary will have to do). I was tempted to torture him and make him wait . . . but after a brief pause decided that was too mean :) Then I asked him what was up with the park, and I thought for sure he was going to ask me there. Apparently there were too many people at the park and it spoiled his plan . . . but it did create the unexpected out of the expected!!
So, since then we've been (or maybe it's just me) going crazy with wedding planning. But almost all the big stuff is done now - now we can just look forward to it. It's hard to explain everything I feel - I always say there just aren't words. I am just so grateful for a Father that knows and loves me, and knows what I need and when is the right time. We are truly in His hands.
